On January 15th, 2012, we will be ending our Cheezburger Collectibles program and retiring Cheezburger Coins. Your existing Collectibles will still be featured and viewable on your Cheezburger Profile, but we will no longer be awarding new Collectibles after January 15th.
Since many of you are fans of our Collectibles, we wanted to let you know in advance about the end of the program. We want to thank you all for participating. As much as we wanted to continue making Cheezburger Collectibles, we could not devote the resources to continue to grow the program and it remained a niche program for our audience of more than 20 million users. Instead, we want to devote our time and resources into features that can benefit the entire community.
Since the Collectibles Program is ending, we will also be retiring Cheezburger Coins and offering a full refund (or LOLmart store credit in the form of a gift certificate, your choice) for any and all Coins purchases made during the life of the program.
We have compiled an FAQ to answer any questions you may have about the Collectibles Program or the Cheezburger Coins refund. If something is not covered below, please let us know in the comments or by contacting Cheezburger Customer Service.

Why is Cheezburger ending the Collectibles Program?
Though we have greatly enjoyed running the Collectibles Program, we are not able to devote the resources needed to turn the program into something truly special and uniquely Cheezburger. As a company, we want to make sure that we’re focusing our efforts on creating programs and features for the whole Cheezburger community.
When is my last day to receive a collectible?
After 9pm PST on January 14th, 2012, you will no longer receive a collectible after visiting two or more pages of an I Can Has Cheezburger or Memebase site.
Will I be able to buy any more Cheezburger Coins for purchasing collectibles?
Cheezburger Coins will no longer be available for purchase after 12pm PST on December 15th, 2011.
Will my collectibles still be visible on my Cheezburger Profile?
Your collectibles will still be featured on your profile to show off all of the hard work you put into compiling your collections. Users who sign up for a Cheezburger Profile after January 15th will not receive collectibles via site visits but will be able to receive them as gifts from friends until April 15th, 2012.
What will happen to Cheezburger Trophies?
There will be no change to the Cheezburger Trophies feature and you will continue to receive trophies when you hit a Cheezburger milestone.
Can I still gift and trade my collectibles?
You will be able to trade collectibles with your Cheezburger friends until April 15th, 2012.
Will I be able to get any of the old collectibles to complete my sets?
On January 15th, 2012, we will be making every previously offered collectible available for one month at the price of 1 Cheezburger Coin each. You will be able to use your existing Cheezburger Coins to purchase these collectibles. Receiving the LOLmart refund for previously purchased Cheezburger Coins will not remove them from your profile.
How do I get my Cheezburger Coins refund?
We will be sending out an email to all past purchasers of Cheezburger Coins with details on how to receive your refund or LOLmart store credit. If you have any additional questions, please contact Cheezburger Customer Service.

So as of noon the day you announce this you shut down the ability to buy coins so that if you do not have coins, you will NEVER be ability to complete your collection unless you try to trade with people who probably did get this message in time either?? Seriously??
As we will be refunding all coins purchases it was necessary to shut down the coins the same time we made the announcement of the program ending. Sorry for the frustration.
Wait… You’re refunding the money paid for the coins anyway, so what difference does it make if people still buy them? How about this… After Jan 15th give us a chance to collect coins by visiting pages, similar to how we got the collectibles? That’s a “win” all the way around. ICHC doesn’t have to make new collectibles or deal with money for buying coins, and cheezepeeps who didn’t have any coins left when you stopped selling them still have a chance to get some and complete their collections.
The current collectibles system does not allow the capability of awarding coins for page visits.

I hope so too, Dan, but am just putting on my best face possible and to show appreciation for the fun I had. I suspect we collectors sucked up a lot of bandwidth and generated little revenue for the site, plus the weekly creative demands their team had to issue new items (and deal with any possible copyright/trademark issues?).
We can toy with the idea of starting our own collectibles or collector site, but I don’t know how well we would do or how many people we could attract to play.

Well, you killed the collectibles by making new sets way too often. Trading / giving was not fun anymore, just a necessity.
Well, that’s so disappointing.
What happens to our collectibles after April 15th? I see you can no longer trade, are they vanishing completely? Will we still have them on our profiles even if trade has suspended? I will be highly upset if after all the work (and a lot of MONEY) I put into my collection it’s just going to vanish completely.
As noted in the FAQ. Your collections will not be removed from your profile pages. Even after the 15th of April. As also mentioned in the FAQ and post we will be sending out information on how you can receive a full refund for any coins purchased during the life of the collectibles program. You will still have those collectibles you purchased in your profile you will have simply gotten them for free with the receipt of your coins purchase refund.
As I understand it, people who have coins are allowed to gift them to others. I’m not quite sure how that works, though.
Klea, you are allowed to gift a collectible not coins. When the purchasing was available you could buy coins and have the email with the coins redemption code sent/gifted to someone else. I get what you are saying and i am looking into that functionality and if it is available.
I have really enjoyed the challenge of the collectibles. In the process of completing the many series, I have met and became friends with many wonderful people. I really wish ICHC would reconsider keeping the collectible program, even if they scaled it back. I hope the powers that be will consider bringing the program back in the future, if it is possible. Perhaps ICHC could issue special edition collectibles periodically for special events like the Olympics or the change of the seasons or the Anniversary week of ICHC starting or even Holidays.

I somehow got this far without spending the 20 that were gifted to everyone a long time ago. I assume I’ll be using those to buy a lot of Turkey and Karots for my cheezfriends.

I am very sad about the end of the collectibles. I really enjoyed getting, giving and trading collectibles with my cheezfrends. I hope that maybe sometime in the future collectibles can come back.
I agree that you should NOT shut down the ability to buy coins on the day you announce stopping it, giving us no chance to complete our collections. Especially as it is clear that a few collectibles were held back and not given out as often. I spent over a HUNDRED dollars buying coins and this is what I get……real nice guys. Sorry you disagree with the decision but one thing I wanted to comment on is that you will be offered a complete refund for your money spent on coins to purchase collectibles. So your cost for the ones you have purchased will be Zero in the long run. As we made the decision to offer full refunds to all past coin purchasers we could no longer offer the ability to buy more coins that would then be refunded. Hope that makes sense
The refund is a great idea! I want a couple of things at LOLmart…so this site will still get the money. But, I am sure going to miss collecting and trading. : (
Though I can see you didn’t want to process transactions you’d later have to refund, it does mean most people can’t complete their sets, because a few of the collectibles were so rare it’s going to be difficult to trade for them before the cutoff point.
A compromise would be giving everyone 5 cheezcoins for Christmas, or something like that. It’ll be enough for people to fill out a few remaining sets, but not so much that someone could fill out all their sets without having taken part in the programme.
you really should have kept doing them once for two weeks rather than weekly, you could have reverted back to that format to make it easier. i really think this will cost you in the long run. i for one wont be coming back to the sites daily anymore like others wont aswell, might even remove the bookmark

Some of that content happens to be my series of “Klea’s Trading Post” lols. Some of those were pretty damn cute and funny, if I say so myself. Based on the feedback I got, other people liked them as well. Many collectibles were traded, and we had fun.

I really hate to see the collectibles go away. I know when someone sent me a collectible I needed, it brightened my day. When I compete a friend’s set, they tell me the same thing. I got in on the ground floor and am one of the lucky ones who currently have them all (OCD tendancy). It was fun while it lasted. Any thoughts of making a trophy for those who have them all when the collectibles end?
Sad, very sad. Why end something that so many people are interested in? And yes, changing the length of time that we were able to try to collect each set was crazy. Please reconsider. I’ve actually spent more time here since I started to trade…guess I won’t when that stops.

Just a piece of information for those who may be interested: I have a stash of 68 coins which I will be using to buy collectibles when that option becomes available. My collection is almost complete, only 2 collectibles missing. So I will be able to get 66 rarities for others that I will be very happy to help others out with. Just putting that out there for those who will need some help to complete their collections before April 15th.

I think we’ve been misreading what ICHC has been saying. There will not be any more new sets, ever, and after January 15th we won’t be getting even one of the old ones on any page visits. Like you, I read what they were saying as meaning they had enough new sets to take us to Jan 15th, but it appears they worded that badly and all the sets are now used up.
Yes you are correct. We have one more new set that will be available for site visits from Jan 1st at 9:00 PM PST ending on Sunday January 15th at 9:00 PM PST. After that time on the 15th the notification slider that shows after you visit 2 pages will no longer be operable. You will still be able to trade and purchase collectibles if you have a coin balance until the 15th of April 2012.
Why not make the coins available till Jan 15th too? Lots of people would like to complete their retired sets….Show some Christmas Cheer!

Hey all. I’m toying with the idea of starting my own collectibles game site that would extend the cheezburger collectibles game. You would be able to import your collection. Users would have the opportunity to buy/sell any items in their collections to others as well as initiate new sets (we’d probably have voting to decide whose set is featured in a given week) and you can earn daily coins by logging in, to help you make purchases.
I will consider setting up the game to start Jan 15, 2012. The game would likely be not-for-profit and not cost you anything. Probably no ads, probably not a very pretty site, but enough to get your collectibles fix.

The decision to make two different collectible sets every week was ridiculous. Only the truly obsessive collectible fans (such as myself) were devoted enough to ensure they logged on pretty much every day in order to complete the sets. This must have been a large factor in it being a so-called “niche” program – lots of people had no chance of keeping up with the pace.
I’m convinced that you could have come up with a way to make it less resource-intensive. All of the code and system was in place, so the only resources that you would have to devote would have been to designing the new collectibles? I am sure there would be people who use the site who would have been more than willing, dare I say *keen*, to design the collectibles – for free. (for gods sake the whole SITE is about being creative and sharing this with others for free)
The cheez sites seem to be gearing more and more to profit making. Not that I begrudge you making a profit, I realise you are a business. But you seem to be starting to put the dollar signs before the people that use the site, and it will burn you in the long run.

I’m sad to see the Collectibles go. It’s been fun collecting them. With regard to the coins I received when I created my account, will I get a refund on those or are refunds only on additionally purchased coins? Also, is it possible to get some kind of refund on coins spent in return for the collectibles they were spent on? Unfortunately, I didn’t realise *all* sets were going to become available for purchase and so I spent all my coins on LOLrus Pool Party and Picture is Unrelated sets in order to help friends that needed them and didn’t have coins. However, I would have held some coins back to finish off my sets if I had known other collectibles would be available. The whole situation has proven a little confusing (the information on the Collectibles tab of my profile said coins would be retired on January 15th but they’ve already been retired) and now it’s not possible to buy coins, there’s a good chance I won’t be able to complete all my sets.
The coins you received upon creating your account were FREE. The Refund is for any coins that were “purchased” through the LOLmart. No we are not adding any coins back to peoples accounts. the coins spent on certain things during the life of the program are spent on those items. I have updated the message on the collectibles tab to be more clear and state that the purchasing of coins will/was disabled on the 15th of december 2011

Unfortunately I was a little confused what was meant by a refund and I thought you were going to refund coins (which of course with hindsight doesn’t make any sense when you have retired them) and I was hoping the refund would meant that I would have some coins to buy any remaining collectibles I’m missing.
If I may ask though, why have some of the sets become available for purchase now and at different prices (i.e. LOLrus Pool Party and Picture Is Unrelated sets are available for 4 coins but How People View Me and Poptart Cat cost 50 coins and no other sets are available), when all the sets will become available to buy in the future?
As I mentioned previously, if I had known all the sets would become available to buy, I would have held on to the 20 free coins I received when I created my account. As I have now spent them on duplicates of those collectibles that were retired but then made available recently and coins are no longer available, I’m left hoping I can trade for the ones I still need.
I understand that you are closing the collectibles program and the coins, but I am confused why the information about it has been provided in this way. Unfortunately, I don’t read this blog very often and so the information I have received prior to posting here the other day has come from the Collectibles page of my profile or what I have heard from Cheezfriends.
Will other old retired collectibles become available in the normal pop-up way of getting collectibles, over the new few days in the same way that Picture Is Unrelated and LOLrus Pool Party have been? That at least would help some of us get hold of those elusive collectibles such as Turkey and Thermometer. Thank you for your time.
The current sets that are available for 1 coin each are either currently being granted to users when they visit 2 of our sites. Lolrus pool part and Picture is Unrelated were 2 sets that were only available for 5 days when they were launched which caused many of you to not be able to complete these sets. We decided to make these particular sets available for site visits for the next 2 weeks to enable people to complete these hard to get sets. The older or “retired” sets are still available at their original coin prices but will on January 15th be made available for 1 coin each, along with all sets that were ever created.
Our Corporate blog and Collectibles Blog are the most effective way to message our users along with areas on your individual profiles. Our Blog posts also allow for the best opportunity for feedback that can be shared and where appropriate be posted for further comments.
We will not be enabling any of the older collectibles before January 15th as this takes away from the current sets available and that causes a lot of people to get agitated.

Without the collectables I feel that would be less motivation to visit the site regularly and also there would be little or no motivation to communicate amongst the other members of this site even now there should be a marked rise in communication right now with trading increased by at least thirty percent in the last week and with the increased trading of the gifts there is the knock on affect of the purchase of coins so I am assuming that you’ve based the popularity of the collectables on the amount of coins that have been brought rather than the amount of footfall that this site has generated which is a flawed assumption.
And with the extra generated footfall it has opened up quite a few sponsorship deals hasn’t it such as the Yaris site, and the lesser known attachment within the photobucket site which has been extremely lucrative for the stockholders of this site and the other sites linked in with the main cheez site such as Fail blog and memebase.
Now even I have to admit that in the last 8 months the collectables have been over stretched and there has been at least one major copyright error and that was with the cereal memebase set but I assume that has been ironed over
As a compromise to the cancellation of the collectables how about one set every two-three weeks with a seasonal set for occasions such as Easter, Christmas/Hanukkah and Summer break.

I don’t know if this problem has been addressed above or not (don’t want to read through all of it), but I still have 14 coins in my account however I don’t have to option to buy any collectibles. Even at 1 coin each! I would like to buy extras and gift them to friends. Maybe I can’t buy any because I already have one of that kind. Is there anything I can do?
The system was broken earlier but is now fixed. you can spend your 14 coins on any of the collectibles available and then of course gift them to friends.
So how many more new sets will be released before Jan 15th?

The collectables were the reason I went to ICHC site first thing every morning…First Thing Every Morning. Which after collecting, I checked out what was happening in cheezpeep world. When the collectables stop you will not be on the top of my “go to” list anymore….just another site among many sites competing for viewing audience numbers….. Mary Ann

Question for the mods… seeing as though we won’t be getting any collectibles as of the 15th, and seeing as though they’ll only be open until April 15th… is there any way you could ease up on the “can only send one per day” rule? There’s a lot of people who need sets filled in, and equally as many people trying to help. With that being said, the one per day rule is putting a serious damper on any progress we could be making in helping others out before it’s shut down entirely. Even making the limit 3 per day would be a serious help. Just my 2 cents.

The Poptart Kitteh set is 4 coins, but there is not an option to buy the individual collectibles for 1 coin. Is this a glitch? Also please clarify whether or not that INDIVIDUAL collectibles from every set will be able to be purchased for 1 coin each starting on Jan 15. (In other words, you would not have to purchase the entire set of 4 collectibles for 4 coins, you can purchase only the individual collectibles you need for 1 coin each.)

I wish I could say I’m shocked and surprised that they aren’t for sale, as promised, but I’m not.
I am with SW about dropping the one gift per day rule since you are depriving us of the c’bles altogether. All this is doing is making it harder and harder to help our friends. At least it is an issue that is due consideration. It would put a positive spin on a very Negative Decision that has cast a pall over the community. Just because you don’t get a lot of messages, doesn’t mean the messages are not flying around in individual message boxes. And it doesn’t make you look good at all. Good PR is never a bad thing.

Funny how they say they need more time to produce content for the site and stuff when the Cheezpeeps are the ones who produce all the LOLs. Without the hordes of Cheezpeeps making LOLs day and night there would be no ICHC.
I’m lacking just the one retired Collectible(Thermometer). This I plan to buy for 1 Coin when they become available. This will leave me with 3 coins and a whole pile of duplicates all the way back. Once people have used up all their spare coins I will be more than happy to pass over any sparesI have, just sent me a friends request and a message – first come first served.
Sad to see the collectibles go, it was themain reason I looked in every day. TO me the site is getting far too busy – too many tabs, to many sub-catergories and duplicates on different pages. Yes – I know its a business and that each new page is a new advertising opportunity, but its starting to make the site look tatty and far too complex to dip into.
I’d be interested to see the hits per page count when collectibles go – got a feeling a lot of traffic will drift away after they go. I was the one thing that differentiated this site from all the other “lol” sites out there.
Disappointment aside, I’d love some friends to work on collections with — I’m happy to gift whatever I have, and would love to receive some in return. Thanks!
Since is no new set coming out this week, why not make ALL of the old sets active. That way people could at least have a miniscule chance of picking up something they have missed out on. I think you owe the collectible fans AT LEAST that much.

I just want to say a HUGE thank you to all of you who has friended me this past month and helping me with my collectibles. Never thought to even have friends before they announced they were doing away with the collectibles. I am proud to say I now need only 50 more. I would never have gotten this far without you guys

Hi Frickaline,Incorporating some way to gain retired cllceltiboes is definitely on our radar and something that we are working towards! These would be special occasion events, though, because we really do want retired cllceltiboes to stay retired. This is still a ways out, though, and until then we’re going to continue to bring shiny new cllceltiboes.

The collectibles were to be made available at 9:00 PM pacific just like every week for the last few months. We are currently updating the system to make them available now. Please be patient as this is a manual process for each and every individual collectible in each series.

today is jan. 15. i have no option that i can find to purchase the retired collectibles. they only have a magnifying glass when i click on them. whats up?
See chrisw’s response above. you will be able to purchase on the ‘active’ tab and the cheezlords are currently moving the old sets back over to the active tab one row at a time.
I have a question. I want to but the O RLY? owl collectible that some people have. Yet, I do not see the sets ‘transportation lols’ ‘o rly family’ ‘my little bronies’ or ‘lol-a-ganda’ on my page. How can I purchase any of these if they don’t show up?
I am updating these 1 collection at a time. I just looked at your page and they are all there now on your collectibles page

When is the specific cut off of the collectible sale? I know the blog and other posts say ‘starting on January 15th… for a month’ but does that mean until February 14th? 15th? Ending at what time and time zone? If the reason you guys haven’t been specific is that you’re thinking about extending the sale beyond February you’ll get no complaint from me! Thanks for any info you can provide.
After numerous posts and emails from our users we have decided to extend the ability to use your coin balances to further your collectibles inventory until the 15th of April when the program officially ends. This will in no way effect the refund for those of you you purchased coins through the LOLmart as the refund does not deduct the coins you purchased.

How about an exchange bin? I give Cheezburger one of my spares for one I want. This could be an everybody thing. The rarity (actual collectibles taken prior to closure) could be taken into account. Dime-a-dozen vs limited time/availabilty.

Refund email was sent out twice already. We will be sending it again next week. I see that your email address WAS part of the list so you may want to check your spam folder or contact customer service with the email address you used to make your coins purchase
